Instructions for permitted uses of library resources
This guide provides information on how specific database licenses allow us to use content. The license may be per vendor or per product. If you have a question about a permitted use, please contact Ward Smith.

Feature Films for Education

Videos from Feature Films for Education may be directly linked or embedded in Canvas or any password protected website that is restricted to OCC students currently enrolled in a specific class. Professors may also show videos in the classroom during scheduled class times. You may not link videos on any public facing site without a password.

Our license includes some public performance rights. This means that student clubs, film festivals, or any event that falls outside regular curriculum-based instruction may show films from this collection, as long as they do not charge an attendance fee and the events on held on campus as a college activity. 

Films on Demand

Videos from Films on Demand may be directly linked or embedded in Canvas or any password protected website that is restricted to OCC students currently enrolled in a specific class. Professors may also show videos in the classroom during scheduled class times. You may not link videos on any public facing site without a password.

Kanopy

Videos from Kanopy may be directly linked or embedded in Canvas or any password protected website that is restricted to OCC students currently enrolled in a specific class. Professors may also show videos in the classroom during scheduled class times. You may not link videos on any public facing site without a password.

Public performance rights (PPR) vary by film title. This means that student clubs, film festivals, or any event that falls outside regular curriculum-based instruction need to confirm that PPR is available on the film they wish to show before holding the event. In addition, public performances may not charge an attendance fee and the events must be held on campus as a college activity. Kanopy has instructions for determining if a film has PPR or not.

Swank

Videos from Swank may be directly linked in Canvas or any password protected website that is restricted to OCC students currently enrolled in a specific class. Professors may also show videos in the classroom during scheduled class times.
