Tips for Searching Scholarly Articles

Search for the ethnic group AND an aspect of the culture. This will give you more targeted results. For example, "Japanese Americans" AND food. Another example, "African Americans" AND religion.
Make sure to mark the box for scholarly articles or peer reviewed. This will ensure you are selecting a scholarly article.
Copy the APA citation and paste into a slide. Do this if there is a possibility you will use the source. You can always delete the citation if you end up not using it. This is easier than having to go back and find the citation.

Proquest Central
This is a good place to start your research. Proquest Central has an ample amount of articles for most subjects. This database mostly has articles from magazines, newspapers, and journals.
Academic Search Ultimate
Academic Search Ultimate contains full text for more than 11,000 journals and magazines. This resource covers almost all topics, with strong content in the humanities and sciences. In addition, 60,000 videos are included from the Associated Press. This database is a great place to start most research projects.
JSTOR
JSTOR contains journal articles in various academic disciplines. Not all content is available full-text so it is recommended to choose the option of searching only content you have access to.

Religion Database
"Religion Database provides a wide range of primarily full-text periodicals and other sources for diverse religious and spiritual studies, covering formal theological studies and commentary on topics of general interest from the perspectives of many worldwide religions. As well as scholarly journals there are many titles from religious publishing bodies and nondenominational organizations. The resource reflects a wide spectrum of religious belief systems and supports the global study of religion."
