Library Services for Faculty: The Library Collection

This page will give you information the OCC Library's services for faculty

The OCC Library Collection

The OCC Library offers faculty access to a large collection of books and DVDs, as well as generous borrowing privileges.

Books

The library has a large collection of over 100,000 books and over 50,000 ebooks.

  • Faculty can check out books in the circulating collection for one semester at a time, with a cap of 35 books out at once.
  • Faculty do not need a library card to check out books. Just bring a valid photo ID and let our staff know that you are a faculty member.
  • We prioritize the purchase of materials directly related to curriculum, but have leisure reading materials as well. Most of our leisure collection is funded by the Friends of the Library.
  • Faculty can request that the library purchase books or videos that they think would benefit the college. You can contact us or fill out the request form. We welcome faculty suggestions!
  • The library has a rotating best-seller collection, supported by our Friends of the Library. Books from this collection can be checked out for three weeks. You can be placed on a mailing list to be notified of new titles. Contact Carl Morgan to join the list!

DVDs

The library has a large DVD collection that is available for faculty and student use. The DVDs are located towards the back of the building, after you enter. DVDs may be checked out for 3 days at a time. You may also place DVDs on reserve. We also have extensive online streaming video collections: see Online Library Materials for more information.

Faculty Borrowing Policies

OCC Faculty are able to check out 35 items (circulating books, ESL materials, and audiobooks) at a time.  All items are due the last day of the semester for faculty. See the Library Policies for more information.

The exception is Bestsellers which are a 3-week check out.

Reserves

Faculty may place instructional materials on reserve at the library for their students to access. Simply bring your materials to the Circulation Desk and fill out a form. You have some flexibility for how long the books circulate, but the standard checkout is 2 hours, in library use only. Although we endeavor to make items available as soon as possible, please allow up to 2 days for processing.

Open Educational Resources (OER)

The library supports faculty who are using or considering using OER materials in their classes. You can consult with a librarian to find materials, request the purchase of ebooks with unlimited licenses, and request desk copies of OER books. Visit our faculty guide to OER for more information or contact Lori Cassidy.
